With 16 races under our belts and about halfway through the season, I wanted to give you all a quick, informal update on how things are looking on the track. It's been a pretty exciting ride so far, with some standout performances and interesting trends emerging!
Top Contenders (Adjusted Scores):
If we factor in the "seven drops" (where each driver gets to discard their 7 worst scores, giving us a clearer picture of their true potential), Sam Caruana is really leading the pack right now with an impressive 261 points. Not far behind are Nate Fanaro with 243 points, and a tie for third between Matt Murray and Scott Mercer, both on 239 points. It's looking tight at the top!
Who's On the Rise? (Scoring Trends):
One of the most interesting aspects of this season is seeing who's really hitting their stride. Sam Caruana isn't just leading; he's also shown the most significant average improvement, gaining 6.30 points per race in the second half of the season compared to the first. That's a serious upward trend!
We've also seen fantastic improvement from:
Matt Murray: Gaining 6.07 points per race on average.
Collin Whalen: Up by 4.83 points per race on average.
Jeff Kibler: Improving by 4.57 points per race on average.
Dave Bauer: Seeing an average gain of 4.00 points per race.
These drivers are clearly finding their rhythm and making big strides, which is awesome to see!
On the flip side, a few drivers have experienced a slight dip in their average points per race in the second half, like Nate Fanaro (-1.86), Scott Murray (-0.88), and Will Sionkiewicz (-0.33). It'll be interesting to see if they can turn that around in the latter half of the season.
Looking Ahead:
Given Sam Caruana's strong adjusted score and his fantastic improvement trend, he's definitely the one to watch for taking home first place. However, with the consistent performance of Matt Murray and Scott Mercer, and the notable improvements from Collin Whalen, Jeff Kibler, and Dave Bauer, the second half of the season promises to be even more competitive. Anything can happen in racing, and we're sure to see some thrilling battles for those top spots!
